Appalachian Festival: Aug. 23 - 26, Beckley.

Join friends and family for four days of the best of West Virginia’s native talent! The festival kicks off Thursday night with the Taste of Appalachia featuring vendors, food sampling and music. Events throughout the weekend include a 90-minute candlelight ghost tours of Beckley’s haunted sites, flea market, classic car show, fashion show at Crossroads Mall and folk music by strolling musicians and scheduled performers.  An arts and crafts show (Aug. 24 - 26) will display beautiful quilts and stunning art and crafts made by over 100 artisans. Theatre WV will offer nightly performances that will have audiences laughing and singing along. Frametown Appalachian Autumn Festival: Aug. 24 - 25, Gassaway.

This fair in Braxton County, sponsored by the Frametown Fire Department, will feature a beauty pageant, fresh produce, arts and crafts, music, car races, a Harley Davidson show, games, homemade goods, Smokey Bear and more. Snowshoe Symphony Festival: Aug. 24 - 26, Snowshoe Resort.

Hear the mountains come alive with beautiful orchestral sounds of the renowned West Virginia Symphony. This 17th annual event includes not only incredible entertainment, but also gourmet foods and arts and crafts – something to please all the senses! WV Honey Festival: Aug. 25 - 26, Parkersburg.

Visit Parkersburg City Park for a festival including arts and crafts, food, a kids’ zone, princess pageant and entertainment. The event celebrates and promotes Parkersburg’s local honey industry and will feature a bee beard demonstration and honey products for sale. Taste of Charleston / Charleston Sternwheel Regatta: Aug. 25 - 26, Aug. 30 - Sept. 2, Charleston.

Take part in a gourmet event sampling the area’s choice foods at the Charleston Civic Center Grand Hall. Over 30 vendors will be offering fine appetizers, entrees, desserts and wines. Later in the week, participate in the events of the Sternwheel Regatta. Stroll along the Kanawha Boulevard to watch the boats, or take a sternwheeler ride on the Sprit of South Charleston. Oak Leaf Festival: Aug. 25 – Sept. 3, Oak Hill.

Events include a community picnic, a talent show, street dance, music performances, crafts, vendors, a parade, a fireman’s rodeo, quilt show, dessert contest, car and bike show, gospel sing, chili cook-off, 5K Run/Walk and fireworks. Events will be held every night except Aug. 29. Larger name music groups that will be performing include Taylor Made on Aug. 30 and the Esquires on Sept. 1. Labor Day Weekend: Aug. 31 - Sept. 2, North Bend State Park, Cairo.

Stonewall Jackson Heritage Arts & Crafts Jubilee: Aug. 31 - Sept. 3, Jackson’s Mill, Weston.

Enjoy heritage arts and crafts, home-cooked foods, music, dance, Civil War re-enactments, demonstrations, Mills Historic Area and more at this four-day festival. Known as one of the best festivals in the state, the jubilee will feature hundreds of crafts exhibits. See history come alive by visiting the Appalachian Rangers' encampment, touring the 200-year-old Blaker's Mill, or visiting the living museum at McWhorter Cabin. Also, the antique engine show and wood chopping demonstration showcases skills held by West Virginia's first settlers. Apple Butter Weekend: Sept. 1 - 3, Blennerhassett Island.

Watch as the members of the Stillwell 4-H Club, dressed in period costumes, demonstrate how to cook homemade apple butter over an open fire just like it was made decades ago. This event, open to the public for tasting as well as buying, is a fund-raiser for the local 4-H club. Let the aroma of apples and cinnamon whet your appetite, and take a jar or two home with you. Labor Day Weekend Celebration: Sept. 1 - 3, Canaan Valley Resort State Park, Davis.

Celebrate the holiday weekend with family-oriented activities such as games, hayrides, a cookout and more. The outdoor pool is open through Monday, Sept. 3, before closing for the season.
