Dolls of the World: Through April 6, Kruger Street Toy and Train Museum, Wheeling.
Don’t miss this wonderful collection of dolls from around the world assembled by Miss Anna Fulton of Pittsburgh, Pa., during her travels from the 1930s to the 1950s. This collection will be shown through April 6. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays only. Tamarack Dinner Theatre “The Drawer Boy”: Feb. 29 and March 1, Tamarack Conference Center, Beckley.
The Kanawha Players of Charleston bring “The Drawer Boy” to Beckley, Feb. 29 and March 1. This comedy/drama by Michael Healy tells the story of a young writer who goes to a farm to learn about farming and ends up learning about much more. Reservations are required, and seating is limited for Saturday’s show. Tickets are $40 per person for each show, and include a gourmet meal prepared by Chef Jamie Henderson and his wonderful staff of culinary craftspeople. Everyone is invited to compete in “ The Oldest Ski Race in the South" presented by the Tucker County Alpine Festival. The Giant Slalom race is set for Saturday, March 1 and the Slalom race on Sunday, March 2. Race fee is required and discounted lift tickets are available to all racers. Ohio River Festival of Books: March 7-8, Big Sandy Superstore Arena Conference Center, Huntington.
Mystery writer Lisa Scottoline, award-winning Southern writer Sharyn McCrumb and nationally-acclaimed biographer Jean Edward Smith headline a list of 70 authors who will take part in the fourth Ohio River Festival of Books on March 7-8. Authors will discuss, read from and sign their books. The festival also features panel discussions, booksellers’ booths, children’s entertainment and much more. Admission is free, but tickets are required for the Friday night reception featuring music by the ’37 Flood. This play, written by Rick Abbot and directed by Joey Thorne, features the community theater of Anywhere, USA, as it tries to put on a play in spite of maddening interference from a haughty authoress who keeps revising the script. Act I is a rehearsal of the play within this play, Act II is the near disastrous and hilarious dress rehearsal, and the final act is the actual performance in which anything that can go wrong does.
