Tourism’s “Frighteningly Fun” Media Advisory

 

 

2007 Haunted Parkersburg Ghost Tours: Oct. 19, 20, 26, 27, 29, 30 and 31; Nov. 2 and 3, Parkersburg.

Take a guided tour of Parkersburg while listening to tales of the paranormal. This leisurely-paced ghost tour takes approximately two hours as participants walk less than two miles to see places possessed by spirits. The walk begins at the historic Blennerhassett Hotel in the downtown business district of Parkersburg. Participants will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the lobby of the hotel. Price is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and students, $6 for children 13-7, and free for children 6 and under. Reservations are not required for scheduled tours. Dungeon of Horrors: Oct. 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 31, Moundsville.

Make a visit to the former West Virginia Penitentiary where some of the most violent criminals in history have lived and died in its darken dungeons. Known for high levels of paranormal activities, visitors will have a chance to experience its horrors firsthand. A new casket ride will be available for the season. Ghost Tours of Lewisburg: Oct. 26 and 27, Lewisburg.

Hear stories from the “other side” as period-dressed guides take visitors to haunted homes and sites in the Lewisburg Historic District. The mansion tour is at 7:30 p.m., while the historic cemetery tour is scheduled for 9 p.m. All tours begin at the General Lewis Inn. The price is $12 per tour or $20 for both tours. Haunted Barn: Oct. 19, 20, 26, 27 and 31, Eleanor.

Putnam County Parks, in conjunction with the Convention and Visitors Bureau, is hosting the “slaughter house” at the Fair Grounds at County Park in Eleanor. Free food will be available the night of Oct. 26, while it lasts. Hours are from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on all nights except for Oct. 31, which will be from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. For more information, call (304) 562-0518.

 

Haunted Hayrides: Oct. 19, 20 and 21, New Manchester.

Tomlinson Run State Park will be featuring Halloween hayrides through the haunted campground on the weekend of October 19 to 21, beginning at dusk. Rides will be $2 per person.  For more information, contact Tomlinson Run State Park at (304)-564-3651.

 

Children’s Halloween Party: Oct. 27, Cairo.

Annual Beaux Arts Masquerade Ball: Nov. 3, Berkeley Springs.

Hang on to your Halloween costume for a couple extra days for the Morgan Arts Council's annual Beaux Arts Masquerade Ball at The Country Inn from 8-11 p.m. This event includes DJs playing a wide range of music, belly dancers, prizes for costumes and more.
