Beckley Theater to Host Special Film Screening

The West Virginia Film Office will host the state premiere of the upcoming film “Win a Date with Tad Hamilton” Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Showplace Cinema on North Eisenhower Drive, Beckley. The invitation-only screening will allow West Virginia dignitaries and those involved with the West Virginia production activities to see the movie before it opens nationwide on Jan. 23.

“DreamWorks LLC was very helpful in arranging for this special, one-time screening of the movie about a West Virginia girl whose dream comes true when she wins a date with a Hollywood star,” Pam Haynes, West Virginia Film Office director, said. “In turn, I am excited about being able to thank everyone who helped with the West Virginia production by giving them this opportunity to see how their efforts gave West Virginia authenticity to the film.”

The screening host is Beckley's Showplace Cinemas on North Eisenhower Drive. Showplace Cinemas is one of several megaplex theaters in 10 states that are owned by Curtis McCall, whose headquarters are in Beckley.

The film is directed by Robert Luketic (Legally Blonde and the upcoming Monster-in-Law with Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda) and stars Topher Grace (That 70's Show), Josh Duhamel (Las Vegas; All My Children), and Kate Bosworth (Blue Crush).

The West Virginia Film Office and the West Virginia Division of Tourism helped with filming activities for the story, which is set in Frazier's Bottom and includes footage from Fayetteville, Grandview, New River Gorge and the London Locks along the Kanawha River.
