Jan. 28 Tourism Day at the Legislature highlights state’s cultural attractions

CHARLESTON – The crowd-favorite theme day, Tourism Day at the Legislature, is set for Wednesday at the State Capitol. This year’s theme is “A Cultural Trail through West Virginia,” which highlights the state’s rich heritage and increasingly popular historical attractions and will feature more than 80 separate vendors’ booths.


The annual event is designed to show legislators and the public the growing importance of the state’s tourism industry, and to have a good time. Representatives from virtually every facet of the industry set up booths and displays of their wares, from restaurants and hotels to health spas and ski resorts. The schedule of activities follows.


2004 TOURISM DAY AT THE LEGISLATURE – WEDNESDAY, JAN. 28.

9:30 a.m. -- Displays open (Capitol rotunda -- first and second floors)

9:30 a.m. -- Tamarack artisan display opens in Governor's Reception Room

10 -11 a.m. – Refreshments in the Capitol rotunda, second floor, provided by Putnam County/St. Albans High School Pro-Start students

10 - 11:45 a.m. -- Tourism Commission Meeting -- Cultural Center North Briefing Room

11 a.m. - 1 p.m. -- Arts Presentations -- Capitol rotunda, first floor
- 11 a.m. – History Alive! portrayal of Booker T. Washington, by Joe Bundy
- 11:30 a.m. – History Alive! portrayal of Devil Anse Hatfield by Steve Bush
- Noon -- Appalachian Children's Choir
- 12:30 p.m. – Musical performance by Bob Taylor, fiddler

1 - 2 p.m. -- Refreshments in the Capitol rotunda, first floor, provided by Fayette Plateau Vo-Tech, Wayne County High School, Webster County High School, Mason County Vo-Tech

3 p.m. -- Displays and Tamarack Artisan Display close.
