SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. – From north to south, east to west, tee to green, the 2005 Official West Virginia Golf Guide provides detailed information about West Virginia’s golf courses.
A collaborative project of the West Virginia Division of Tourism, the West Virginia State Golf Association and Miles Media Group publishing company, the 32-page, full-color publication is a must for any golfer (or hacker) needing information about the state’s many diverse courses designed by some of the most famous names in the sport. The Golf Guide is free and can be obtained by contacting the state tourism office at 1-800-CALLWVA or www.callwva.com.
“This booklet is the most comprehensive source there is about West Virginia’s many fine golf courses. This publication is a great addition to our many promotional efforts,” said Tourism Commissioner Betty Carver.
West Virginia Golf Association Executive Director Danny Fisher is equally pleased with the guide. “It provides in-depth information and projects a high quality image of the state and the great golf we have to offer. We fully expect that this golf guide will be very successful in encouraging West Virginians to play more throughout the state, while simultaneously attracting more out of state play.”
Notable golf courses featured in the book includes Oakhurst
Links, America’s first organized golf club, established in 1884, and
where players today still use hickory clubs, hit gutta percha golf balls off
sand tees and the fairways are ‘mowed’ by sheep.
Miles Media, which produced the Division of Tourism’s official travel
guide, published the ad-supported Golf Guide at no cost to the agency.
