Blue Star Memorial marker dedication at I-68 welcome center this Friday

The West Virginia Garden Clubs will dedicate a Blue Star Memorial Marker at the I-68 Welcome Center near Hazelton Friday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. The marker will honor the men and women of West Virginia who are veterans of military service and who are serving our country in military service today.

The marker is one of several throughout the state that are being posted by the state garden clubs. The Blue Star Memorial Program started during World War II as a way to remind U.S. citizens of the men and women fighting in the war.

Jim Spears, Secretary of Military Affairs and Public Safety, will represent Gov. Manchin at the morning presentation. An honor color guard will participate in the dedication. State Highway Engineer Marvin Murphy will accept the marker on behalf of the West Virginia Division of Highways.

The dedication is open to the public.
