New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day events in the Mountain State
The New Year is coming faster than you think, and it’s not too early to start figuring out where you want to be when 2009 comes calling.
West Virginia’s state parks will welcome in 2009 with dinners, parties, dances, or just some quiet time, depending upon how you want to greet the New Year. Reservations are required for most events, so call early.
West Virginia State Parks will have a wide array of activities to help you bring in the next year, and you can pick the one that’s right for you. Special activities are planned for Canaan Valley Resort, North Bend, Chief Logan Lodge, Tygart Lake, Cacapon Resort and Stonewall Resort state parks. Quiet New Year’s celebrations are planned for Hawks Nest, Pipestem and Blackwater Falls state parks.

West Virginia State Parks New Year’s Eve Events
• Canaan Valley Resort State Park near Davis in Tucker County will have
a combined Christmas and New Year’s Eve Celebration from Dec. 26 – Jan. 1.
Available activities include skiing, snow tubing, snowboarding, snowshoeing,
cross-country skiing and ice skating. The Beech Club features an indoor lap
pool, sauna, fitness room and whirlpool spa. Contact: Canaan Valley Resort

• North Bend State Park near Cairo in Ritchie County will have its New Year’s
Eve party Dec. 31. A buffet dinner will be served from 6:30 – 8 p.m. and will
feature a carving station with four entrees and many side dishes, ending with
fabulous desserts by Chef Ingles. Following dinner, join in for a dance and
party from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. with live music by the Russell Ahner Band. Dress
is casual. The rate for the double occupancy package is $193, which includes
overnight stay for two at North Bend Lodge, dinner for two, Hors d’oeuvres,
Celebration dance, champagne toast at midnight and breakfast Thursday morning.
The price includes taxes and gratuities. A dinner and dance only pricing option

• Chief Logan Lodge, Hotel & Conference Center near Logan in Logan County has scheduled a New Year’s Eve dance party at the new facility just south of Charleston. You can have a delicious dinner, dance to the live music of the Jaguars and enjoy great accommodations to bring in the New Year. The package price of $195 includes dinner for two, dance, two drink tickets, champagne toast, party favors, and overnight accommodations for two at Chief Logan Lodge. • Tygart Lake State Park will have its New Year’s Eve Celebration Dec. 31.
This special package includes an overnight stay for two at Tygart Lake Lodge,
dinner for two, dance, evening snacks, door prizes and a champagne toast at
midnight. The dance is from 8 p.m. until midnight and will feature live music
from the Stepping Stones. The overnight package is $179.90 including tax and
gratuities. A rate for dinner and dance only also is available. Call for pricing.

• Cacapon Resort State Park near Berkeley Springs in Morgan County brings in the New Year with a bang. Guests will end 2008 with music, dancing and a formal toast to start off the New Year at midnight. The package includes lodging, meals and entertainment. • Three West Virginia State Parks, Hawks Nest near Ansted in Fayette County, Blackwater Falls near Davis in Tucker County and Pipestem Resort in southern West Virginia will offer quieter celebrations. No parties, no dances, but you can enjoy a relaxing dinner at the park restaurants, warm yourself by the fireplace, take an evening stroll or just contemplate the New Year in the comfort of a lodge room or by the fireplace. City of Charleston New Year’s Eve Events
The City of Charleston will host two popular events Dec. 31.
• As they have for decades, hundreds of people will pour into the Charleston
Municipal Auditorium for the annual New Year's Eve Gospel Sing, featuring
top-notch groups from around the country. It started more than 30 years ago
and has been called the longest running gospel sing in West Virginia and,
maybe, the United States. The music is set to begin at 7 p.m.
• The Charleston Community Music Association is again sponsoring the popular
GoodNight program, offering a chance for thousands of revelers to celebrate
the New Year. This is a family-oriented downtown event and features hundreds
of performers at different venues throughout the city. The schedule includes
many different types of music, dance and theater performances. Programs begin
at 6 p.m. at all locations. Each program lasts approximately 45 minutes. City
trolleys will make continuous loops among all GoodNight locations beginning
at 6 p.m. There is no charge for the performance or the trolley rides.

New Year’s Eve Dinner and Dance in Bluefield
Ring in the new year on Dec. 31 in Bluefield at the Gary Bowling’s New Year’s Eve Dinner and Dance. Start off with dinner around 7:30 p.m. then enjoy live music and dance. Music will be performed by The Emeralds, a band covering a variety of songs ranging from the ‘40s to today. Cost is $75 for couple or $40 for single. For more information, call 304-327-9300.
New Year’s Eve in Flatwoods
The Days Hotel & Conference Center will offer a New Year’s Eve package Dec. 31. The package includes wine and cheese tasting, dinner and hors d'oeuvres, and music with One-A-Cord and Rick K & the Allnighters. The event will begin at 6 p.m. Packages start at $235 per couple. New Year’s at The Greenbrier

Lewisburg Shanghai Parade
